Creating Your Own Custom Chalkboard Signs

Did you know that you can transform any old print you may have into a beautiful work of chalkboard art?! It’s true! I’m going to break it down for you, so you can utilize this process at your next event! It’s easy and it’s affordable!

What You Will Need:

  1. Print of your choice
  2. Chalk board of your choice
  3. Chalk
  4. Pencil
  5. Tape
  6. Chalk or Paint Pen

Steps:

  1. Select your chalkboard art work. You can use any sort of design you want. Whether you created that online or downloaded it. Simply print out your artwork to the size of your chalkboard. If it’s 8.5″x11″ or smaller, this can be achieved at home with your home printer. If it’s a larger print, you can send it to your local Staples, FedEx or print shop for printing. To achieve maximum savings, ensure you are saying your want a black and white engineering print. Engineering prints are SUPER affordable! Plus you’re just going to be throwing the print away, so you don’t need anything thick or too durable.
  2. Once you have picked up your print flip it on its back and shade the entire back (or where the text is) with your piece of chalk. Feel free to blow off the excess.
  3. Once the back is coated, flip it back right-side-up and tape it in place on top of your chalkboard.
  4. Start outlining your design with a pencil. You will need to push rather hard. This will transfer the chalk on the back of your print onto your chalk board where you are drawing!
  5. Once you have outlined your entire design, carefully remove the print from your board.
  6. You will be able to see a light outline of your design on the board! Just trace over that with you paint pen or chalk marker!
  7. Once your finished design is dry, you can run over it lightly with a Kleenex or a Q-tip to remove any rogue lines!
  8. And there you have it! Your perfect Chalkboard Sign!
